Abstract: Immersive technologies, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), are becoming increasingly important in the surveying profession. They are also becoming a powerful tool for educators across multiple disciplines including surveying and geospatial science. This presentation will focus on the research endeavors at Penn State Wilkes-Barre in the development of the SurReal software to support and enhance surveying education. The presentation will cover how the team created a virtual environment of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus using point clouds collected from uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) methods.
