2026 NASA STEM Enhancement in Earth and Space Science (SEES) Internship

ACEC Research Institute Scholarship Program
The ACEC Research Institute is the leading source of knowledge and thought leadership dedicated
to creating a more sustainable, safe, secure, and technically advanced built environment. Through research, forecasts, trend analysis, and academic scholarships, the Institute provides insights and strategies that strengthen and elevate the engineering profession.
Through the ACEC Research Institute’s online scholarship portal, qualified students can access more than 100 scholarships totaling nearly $1 million in awards. These include a $5,000 scholarship specifically designated for students from Florida, as well as merit and need-based opportunities. Deadline March 13, 2026.
Students complete one application through the portal, which will automatically match them with all scholarships for which they qualify. Application deadlines vary, so students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
Student Achievement in Microelectronics Award
Student Achievement in Microelectronics Award is now open. We will award a tuition scholarship to one undergraduate student for $2,000 and one graduate student for $3,000.

MIT's post-baccalaureate program in Brain and Cognitive Sciences
The MIT Research Scholars Program will soon begin accepting applicants for the next cohort.
The two-year, fully funded post-baccalaureate program is designed to provide access to top-tier research experiences for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional academic potential in the fields of cognitive science, neuroscience, and neuroengineering despite facing significant hardships. The Research Scholars Program has a strong track record of preparing students for top PhD programs in these areas.

FAMU AI Student Internship Opportunity for Spring 2026!
The Cyber Policy Institute is partnering with the National Center for Secure AI Education to deliver the FAMU Student AI Intern program. The program is primarily designed to give FAMU undergraduate students exposure to AI tools in a project-based setting to build business solutions for corporate clients. This Fall, 10 FAMU AI Student Interns worked on a project for the CSI Companies to produce a technical and policy solution for job seekers using AI tools.
Applications are now being accepted for the Spring 2026 cohort. Selected students will receive a $1,500 stipend at the end of the program. All majors are welcome to apply. Exposure to coding, technology, and AI tools is a plus. Students will interview for these competitive slots for January 2026. Apply here!
MIT's post-baccalaureate program in Brain and Cognitive Sciences
Research Scholars Program
Graduating seniors or recent college graduates who plan to pursue a research career in neuroscience or cognitive science, but are seeking more research experience before graduate school, are encouraged to apply.
The program is designed to support students who have overcome hardships in pursuit of their academic goals and may have had limited opportunities to pursue research. Students with physics, math, psychology, biology, neuroscience, engineering and computer science majors are especially welcome to apply.
Note that the program is specifically tailored to prepare students to become PhD scientists. We are not equipped to train students interested in clinical psychology or medical school. Please look at the MIT Brain and Cognitive Science faculty pages and faculty lab pages to see if there is a good fit with your research interests. Scholars in the program will be hired as employees of MIT, thus all applicants must be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the program.
What can Scholars expect?
It is possible to be placed in any lab affiliated with the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Those accepted to the program will find options for research across numerous disciplines within brain and cognitive sciences, including: Cellular and molecular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, cognitive science, and computational neuroscience.
Each scholar is assigned to one of the labs in which they expressed interest. For the next two years, the scholar works directly under that PIs supervision and the direct supervision of an assigned postdoctoral or graduate student mentor. Participants receive a highly competitive stipend, health benefits and tuition remission. The stipend is matched to that of PhD students in the department.
After completing the program, what do scholars go on to do?
Since the program’s inception in 2015, the majority of scholars have gone on to top-ranked PhD programs in cognitive science and neuroscience. Alumni have also pursued industry, government and non-profit careers. Research Scholars alumni are currently PhD students or postdoctoral candidates at UC Berkeley, Boston University, Cornell, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, MIT, NYU, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale.

FSU-ORNL Undergraduate Research Opportunity (FSU-ORNL URO)
Deadline: January 20, 2026
Program Mission. Florida State University (FSU) is one of eight core partner universities to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) – one of the largest national research facilities in the world. This URO program aims to strengthen the connections between FSU and ORNL and expose FSU undergraduate students to the unique research environment and capabilities available on the national lab site.
Internship Summary. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) hosts interns from all over the nation to conduct leading edge research in energy related sciences and other fields every summer. FSU and ORNL are jointly supporting a limited number of students for one of these internships (URO), which will run for 10 weeks, from May 26 to July 31, 2026. ORNL’s Office of Research Education will ensure that students selected through the URO program are matched with mentors and receive an internship offer.
Financial Support. The fellowship will cover a round trip to the ORNL location and provide a stipend of $1,000 per week. Applicants will have to cover their housing and subsistence from the stipend they receive.
How to Prepare to Submit Your Application
For all students, regardless of whether applying through the normal track at ORNL (see education.ornl.gov) or through the FSU-ORNL URO, an application is stronger if you have a good idea of what topics interest you, and especially if you have gotten the interest of an ORNL scientist/mentor.

However, since ORNL is organized by mission, rather than discipline, we encourage you to explore the entire catalog to see where your type of science may be used in a variety of fields. 2026 Tulane Use-Inspired Research and Innovation (TURE)
Calling Undergraduate Students interested in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Commercialization
About: TURE, comprised of 10 faculty mentors from the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department and in partnership with the Tulane University Innovation Institute, will engage 8 undergraduate students in hands-on, use-inspired research at Tulane University applied to challenges in the fields of Health, Energy, and the Environment during Summer 2026.
Eligibility: Undergraduate student participants must have completed their freshmen year of college but not yet graduated and must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Application deadline: March 1, 2026 – Screening of applications will begin on January 31st and offers will be made on a rolling basis. We therefore encourage applicants to apply as early as possible.

The departments of Physics and Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at Cleveland State University invite you to experience cutting edge soft matter research in a supportive environment of our Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Program Dates: May 18 – July 24, 2026 (tentatively)
Projects include: electron imaging of soft matter systems; design and characterization of protein-based materials; volume phase transition in polymeric microgels; assembly of anisotropic nanoparticles; effect of polymer grafting on nanorod diffusion; microfluidic channels and mixers; microemulsions in absinthe; cellular microsensation to fluid flow; waste to energy via chemistry. NSF REU program in Interactive Biomaterials at Syracuse University
The Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering is now accepting applications for the summer 2026 NSF REU program (June 1 – August 7, 2026) in Interactive Biomaterials at Syracuse University. The application deadline is March 2nd, 2026. There is no application fee. The application documents require student’s brief personal statement, college transcripts, and a selection of research projects. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
The REU program focuses on interdisciplinary biomaterials research at the interface of engineering, chemistry, physics, and biology. More than 25 faculty participants from the College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Arts and Sciences, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, work with the students each summer on cutting-edge research projects. Each REU participant will work directly with the faculty member and their research groups. The Interactive Biomaterials REU has a been running for more than 10 years and majority of our former students have continued their careers in research as graduate students or are employed in STEM related fields.

Need to Know
REMINDER: COE Parking Regulations & Motorcycle/Scooter Parking
In order to provide the safest environment possible, Parking Services and FSUPD issue parking citations and/or tow vehicles which are not properly parked at the College of Engineering (vehicles must be legally parked in an appropriate space). This includes those vehicles which are parked in the grass, in no-parking areas, next to red or yellow painted curbs, those that have jumped a curb, or those that park in hashed-out spaces. Vehicles illegally parked in reserved spaces will be immediately ticketed/towed at the owner's expense.
REMEMBER: Parking is never allowed on the grass (vehicles must be legally parked in an appropriate space). See the parking map here.
Motorcycle and scooter parking: There is very limited space for motorcycles and scooters at the COE. In the A Bldg. lot, there is a small area reserved for motorcycles and scooters. There is no motorcycle/scooter parking in the B Bldg. lot. Motorcycles and scooters also cannot park on walkways, in handicap spaces, or in regular parking spaces at the COE. Those that park anywhere at the COE other than the designated location in the A Bldg. lot will be in violation of university parking regulations and may be ticketed. Motorcycles and scooters can park in the overflow lot (yay!).
Additional spaces are available in the overflow lot between the B parking lot and the AME building. This lot extends to the end of Innovation Park (it’s huge! See the map here).
Don’t forget, students/faculty/staff can take the bus to and from the College, FAMU, and FSU for free with a valid University ID. Carpooling and Biking are also great!
Pedestrians, please look up from your phones before stepping out into the street when leaving the building. We hope that everyone can come and go safely from the college.

Library Hours
The last day of library’s staffed hours (Monday through Friday, 8 AM-5 PM) will be Friday, Dec. 12. The space will remain open during the intersession as building hours permit. Staffed hours will restart on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
New Items
Sometimes scholars need a laptop for more than a few hours. COE Library now has 3-Day loaner PC laptops and chargers. Also new to the library this semester are measuring kits. These packs include one each of tape measure roll, soft measuring tape, protractor and compass.

Knack Tutoring Platform for FAMU-FSU Engineering students
FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is super excited about our partnership with Knack — the ultimate peer tutoring platform. Knack’s platform allows FAMU-FSU College of Engineering students to book tutoring sessions with verified FAMU-FSU peer tutors who have previously aced the courses they are tutoring for. You might receive emails from Knack with information about how to become a tutor or receive tutoring. Know that this is an official student resource that the college is providing, and that Knack administers and provides the platform for.

It is free to receive tutoring! To view available tutors for your classes, join Knack and sign in with your FAMU or FSU student credentials. As more tutors sign up, your options will grow.

Tutors receive payment for tutoring! An already-earned grade of “B” or better in a course is required for tutor eligibility. Use the link above to create a verified tutoring profile, complete tutor training (paid), and begin helping students.

Campus Safety Updates & Emergency Preparedness Information
At Florida State University, the safety and security of everyone on campus remains our top priority. The university uses a comprehensive, multi-layered approach to campus safety, integrating a top-notch campus police department, advanced technology, robust emergency management protocols, and dedicated security personnel. These coordinated efforts are designed to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike, ensuring a secure environment that supports learning and collaboration.
As we begin the fall semester, we'd like to take the opportunity to introduce you to some new technology tools and resources, reiterate the various means by which FSU supports the campus community during emergencies, and encourage you to review emergency preparedness materials.
CAMPUS SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS
As is the case every summer, the university has been diligently working on campus enhancements. This fall, you will see new technology tools, such as panic buttons and lockdown buttons, installed in academic spaces throughout campus.

Panic Buttons: These are blue in color and are silent alert buttons that send a direct alert to the FSU Police Department’s dispatch center. Use these in emergencies involving active assailant threats. When activated, they trigger immediate police dispatch. Remember to also physically lock the room where the panic button is being activated.

Lockdown Buttons: These are yellow in color and marked “Lockdown.” When activated, doors are automatically locked, and FSU Police are immediately dispatched to the building. No one from outside the room can enter except FSU Police.

Door Locks: Doors to academic spaces that are not equipped with centrally managed electronic locks have thumb-turn or push-button locking systems.
All of these new enhancements comply with university guidelines, ADA standards and building codes.
Our University Communications team collaborated closely with Public Safety to create an educational video that will teach you when and how to use these tools properly.
We encourage everyone to check classrooms, offices, and other university facilities at the start of each semester to know what technology is available in each location. DO NOT push panic or lockdown buttons to test them.

In addition to these security enhancements, you will see an increased security presence at the Student Union. Throughout the semester, FSU Police officers also will hold office hours at the Union. Times and dates will be announced.
FSU ALERT
FSU ALERT is the official emergency notification and warning system of Florida State University. In the event of a situation or condition, occurring or imminent, that poses an immediate threat to the health, safety, or general welfare of students, faculty, staff or visitors to the university, an FSU ALERT will be issued. The FSU ALERT emergency notification system uses multiple methods for disseminating emergency information, including email, text messages, alerts.fsu.edu and social media.
WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
Having a well-defined plan is essential for ensuring safety and achieving positive outcomes in the event of an emergency. We recommend that you review our Emergency Preparedness Guide and develop a personal emergency plan. In addition, FSU has Emergency Action Guides for many of the potential hazards we face in Florida and at FSU. Each guide provides protective action steps and best practices on how to respond to an emergency situation, including hurricanes, tornadoes and active threats.
ACTIVE THREAT TRAINING
The FSU Police Department will continue to offer Active Threat Training this fall, and participation is strongly encouraged. This training provides information and skills for responding during an active threat situation by understanding and applying the Run, Hide, Fight strategy.
