Safer Processing for Therapeutics Targeting Infectious Diseases, Autoimmune Disorders and Cancer

During the COVID-19 epidemic, monoclonal antibodies became a well-known and essential tool for treating the disease. Biologic therapeutics provide promising treatments for all kinds of infectious diseases. However, new research reveals problems that can affect product quality and shelf life. 

Researchers at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory are working with the National Institute of Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to study the problem.

International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Team Earns Silver Medal at the Grand Jamboree in Paris

FAMU-FSU Engineering students were part of a multidisciplinary team from Florida State University that won silver this year at the international 2023 iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris. 

The competition included over 400 teams worldwide who showcased their research and competed for awards. The event brought researchers, industry, startup founders, experts and others together to explore the future of synthetic biology.

Recently, our group is focusing on creating hierarchically structured hybrid composites and coextruded micro-/nano-layered structures to tune the material properties.

Engineering Professor Receives Institute’s Distinguished Service Award

Subramanian Ramakrishnan, a chemical and biomedical engineering professor at the FAMU-FSU College, received the American Institute of Chemical Engineers 2023 Minority Affairs Community Distinguished Service Award. 

The award recognizes AIChE members for sustained service and outstanding achievements that advance the goals of the minority affairs community, which includes reducing the diminishing of minorities in the Institute, the chemical engineering profession and engineering.
