Engineering doctoral student Abiola Oloye is on the hunt for better superconducting materials

Abiola Temidayo Oloye is a doctoral student in materials science at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, she received her bachelor’s and first master’s degree from the Southwest State University in Kursk, Russia, in electronic engineering and telecommunications. She also holds a master’s in materials science. 

Materials science engineering student wins $5,000 IEEE Fellowship

Imam Hossain, doctoral student in materials science at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and Florida State University (FSU), was recently awarded a 2021 Graduate Study Fellowship by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Council on Superconductivity (IEEE-CSC) for work in the field. 

Every year, six doctoral students in the field of applied superconductivity receive the IEEE award. International applicants compete in the categories of electronics, materials and large-scale applications.

SpaceX launch engineer joins FCAAP as new project director

The first SpaceX Dragon spacecraft to carry astronauts successfully to earth returned in August 2020, ending an historic two-month test flight partnership with NASA. The moment was especially significant for SpaceX engineer Michael Sheehan, who was part of the launch development team for the mission. His team wrote software and ran the launch control operations. 

Aerospace, Mechatronics and Energy building management becomes integrated with the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering

The Aerospace, Mechatronics and Energy (AME) building and Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) in Tallahassee’s Innovation Park adopted new management models and leadership under the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering on July 1, 2020. This was the culmination of a three-year transition period which began in July 2017.
