Research Example

When the dimensions of bulk materials are reduced to the nanometer the material properties can change dramatically. Examples include two dimensional thin films, one dimensional nanotubes and zero dimensional nanoparticles, all of which can exhibit enhanced surface area to volume ratio, as well as chemical, biological, electronic and optical properties. In particular, bio-nanoscience at FSU focuses on areas of nanotechnology that blend "hard" (metals and semiconductors) and "soft" (organic and biological) materials: the science, engineering and art of tailoring and harnessing biomolecular function in nano-fabricated settings.
